CS Duale Orders Probe into Sisto Mazzoldi Hospital Malpractice Claims

Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale has directed the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) to launch an in-depth investigation into allegations of medical malpractice at Sisto Mazzoldi Hospital in Nakuru County.

Speaking in a press statement sent to newsrooms, CS Duale said the directive follows additional claims of malpractice highlighted by the media. “In response to the additional allegations of malpractice, I have directed KMPDC to immediately commence a fresh, in-depth investigation into these specific claims,” he stated.

The CS noted that Sisto Mazzoldi Hospital was already under active investigation by the State Health Authority (SHA) for allegedly submitting inaccurate claims. As a result, the facility has been officially suspended from providing services under the SHA framework until all investigations are concluded.

Further, CS Duale disclosed that the hospital’s rating was downgraded from a Level IV to a Level III institution by KMPDC following a comprehensive regulatory assessment conducted in November 2025.

He warned that stringent disciplinary action will be taken if any evidence of malpractice is confirmed, stressing that accountability and adherence to professional standards are non-negotiable in Kenya’s healthcare system.

CS Duale reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the right of every patient to accessible and quality healthcare as enshrined in Article 43 of the Constitution. He emphasized that the Ministry of Health aims to build a system grounded in quality, transparency, and efficiency.

“We recognise that public oversight is a cornerstone of this transformation and therefore urge all Kenyans to remain vigilant and report any service concerns or irregularities via the SHA toll-free number 147,” CS Duale said.

The Cabinet Secretary underscored that public participation is critical to safeguarding the integrity of Kenya’s health system, ensuring transparency, and promoting a healthier future for all citizens.

The directive comes amid heightened scrutiny of private healthcare providers, as authorities continue efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight and protect patients from substandard medical practices.
