Wetang’ula Intensifies Campaigns for Ford Kenya Candidate in Chwele-Kabuchai By-Election

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has stepped up campaigns for Ford Kenya candidate Vincent Maunda ahead of Thursday’s Chwele–Kabuchai ward by-election, assuring residents of enhanced security to guarantee a peaceful and credible vote.

Speaking at Chwele on Tuesday, Wetang’ula—who was accompanied by several MPs, MCAs and local leaders—said adequate measures had been put in place to curb violence and prevent any form of voter intimidation.

“We have tightened security to ensure there is no violence that could disrupt voting or scare away voters on Thursday,” the Speaker told supporters.

Wetang’ula urged residents to turn out in large numbers and back Maunda, saying the by-election had drawn national attention and would serve as a political statement for the party in Bungoma County.

He expressed confidence that the Ford Kenya candidate would secure victory, adding that such an outcome would reaffirm the party’s growing influence and expose what he termed as the “betrayal” of former allies who had benefited from his political support.

“All eyes are on the Chwele–Kabuchai ward by-elections. Maunda will win and his victory will bolster Ford-K and shame my opponents who have betrayed me after I invested in their political careers,” Wetang’ula said.

The by-election has attracted heightened interest as parties jostle to stamp authority in the wider Bukusu political landscape. Wetang’ula called for calm, urging residents to reject leaders who thrive on division and instead rally behind Ford Kenya’s development agenda.

Voting is set for Thursday, with security teams already deployed to ensure a smooth exercise.
