Hundreds of ODM supporters on Thursday flocked to Awendo Stadium for a moving memorial event held in honor of the late ODM party leader, Raila Amolo Odinga. The emotional ceremony brought together political leaders, dignitaries, and supporters from across the Nyanza region and beyond, united in celebrating Raila’s lifelong commitment to democracy, justice, and national unity.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga led the tributes, describing Raila as a towering figure in Kenya’s political history.

“Raila was a pillar of democracy and justice. He taught us never to give up,” Wanga said. “Every milestone we have achieved as a nation bears his mark.”

She urged ODM members to remain united and to continue advancing the ideals Raila championed throughout his political life.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed echoed the sentiments, calling Raila a selfless leader whose sacrifices reshaped Kenya’s democratic landscape.

“Raila devoted his entire life to Kenya. We must not allow his history to fade away,” Junet said, urging the youth to carry forward his torch of reform and justice.

Raila’s elder brother, Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga, delivered a deeply emotional tribute, reflecting on Raila’s resilience and love for the people.

“He never tired of fighting for the people. Even though he is not here with us today, his spirit of struggle still lives among us,” Oburu said, his voice trembling with emotion.

The ceremony was marked by a message of peace, unity, and continued engagement in democratic processes, as ODM leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Raila’s vision for a just and inclusive Kenya.

The vibrant event featured stirring performances by the legendary Ramogi Band, whose songs and dances energized the crowd. Supporters waved orange flags and banners inscribed with “Asante Baba”, a heartfelt expression of gratitude for Raila’s enduring influence and the hope he inspired across generations.

As the sun set over Awendo Stadium, the mood was both solemn and celebratory — a powerful reminder that while Raila Odinga may be gone, his dream for a better Kenya continues to live on in the hearts of his supporters.
