Speaker Muigei Applauds Groundbreaking of 2,000-Bed MTRH Multi-Specialty Facility in Uasin Gishu
The ceremony, presided over by Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale, marks the beginning of construction for a state-of-the-art facility that will eventually expand to 4,000 beds. The project, funded by the government and set for completion in April 2027, will feature 60 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and 120 High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds, addressing critical gaps in specialised medical care.
“This project is a historic step for Eldoret and Uasin Gishu County. It will expand healthcare access and ensure that specialised services are available to our communities without long travel or delays,” said Speaker Muigei, who attended the ceremony. He noted that the facility will not only improve medical care but also create jobs during construction, benefiting engineers, technicians, artisans, and local suppliers.
The construction, being carried out on a 200-acre site through the Ministry of Defence, is expected to cement Eldoret’s position as a regional hub for healthcare, research, and medical training. The event was hosted by Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii and MTRH CEO Dr. Philip Kirwa, with several national and county leaders in attendance.
Speaker Muigei emphasized that the facility will be a major boost to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) efforts in Kenya. “This development demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving health infrastructure. Eldoret is on its way to becoming a centre of medical excellence in East Africa,” he said.
The MTRH Multi-Specialty Facility is expected to revolutionize healthcare in Uasin Gishu and surrounding counties, offering world-class medical services and expanding opportunities for research, training, and innovation in the health sector.
