Savannah Honey Crowned Best Beekeeping Company of the Year at NaBLA Awards

Savannah Honey, one of Kenya’s fastest-rising agribusiness enterprises, has been named the Best Beekeeping Company of the Year at the National Business Leadership Awards (NaBLA). The esteemed awards ceremony took place on Thursday at the Weston Hotel in Nairobi, bringing together top business leaders, innovators, and policymakers from across the country.

The accolade was received by CEO Kyalo Mutua, Program Manager Winfred Muindi, and Head of Communications Lameck Tala, who represented Savannah Honey at the high-profile event. Their presence highlighted the company’s leadership strength and its commitment to driving the growth of Kenya’s beekeeping industry.

A Milestone for Kenya’s Apiculture Sector

Savannah Honey’s recognition comes at a time when the apiculture industry is rapidly evolving, driven by rising demand for organic honey, increased farmer participation, and new technologies that support sustainable beekeeping. The NaBLA Award cements the company’s reputation as a pioneer in modern, environmentally conscious honey production.

In his acceptance speech, CEO Kyalo Mutua expressed gratitude to the award organizers, the company’s partners, and the thousands of smallholder beekeepers who contribute to Savannah Honey’s supply chain.
“This award is a testament to the resilience and dedication of our team,” Mutua said. “We have built a model that not only delivers high-quality honey but also uplifts rural communities. Our mission is to transform Kenya into a continental leader in beekeeping and honey value addition.”

Driving Community Transformation

Program Manager Winfred Muindi highlighted the company’s extensive on-the-ground programs, which include farmer training, hive installation support, and quality assurance initiatives. She noted that Savannah Honey has been instrumental in equipping beekeepers with modern skills and tools that enhance both productivity and product quality.

“Our work goes far beyond honey production,” Muindi explained. “We are empowering farmers—many of them women and youth—to take charge of their economic future. When farmers succeed, entire communities prosper. This award reinforces why our programs matter.”

A Growing Brand With a Global Vision

Head of Communications Lameck Tala emphasized the importance of storytelling and consumer trust in building Savannah Honey’s brand identity. He noted that the company has invested heavily in research, packaging innovation, and marketing strategies that position Kenyan honey competitively in both local and international markets.

“Kenya’s honey has a unique and unmatched profile,” Tala said. “Our goal is to showcase that to the world. Being honoured at the NaBLA Awards motivates us to continue building a brand rooted in authenticity, sustainability, and excellence.”

Celebrating Business Leadership and Innovation

The National Business Leadership Awards are designed to honour companies that demonstrate exceptional performance, leadership, and positive societal impact. This year’s edition placed special emphasis on sustainability, resilience, and visionary thinking—values that Savannah Honey has integrated deeply into its operations.

Industry experts praised Savannah Honey for its innovative approach to beekeeping, including the adoption of climate-smart practices, enhanced traceability systems, and partnerships with conservation groups to protect bee habitats.

Looking Ahead

With the NaBLA Award marking a major milestone, Savannah Honey says it plans to expand its operations further, reach more farming communities, and introduce new honey-based products to meet growing consumer demand. The company is also exploring regional export opportunities as it positions itself among Africa’s top honey producers.

“Today’s recognition fuels our ambition,” Mutua said in closing. “We are just getting started. The future of beekeeping in Kenya is bright, and Savannah Honey is proud to be at the forefront of that journey.”
