Saboti MP Caleb Amisi Vows to Carry Raila’s Legacy, Calls for Kenyan Renaissance
Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has issued a stirring message to the nation following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, declaring that the young generation must now finish the journey they began together.
“I stood with the late Raila Odinga — Baba — when no one else would,” Amisi said in a heartfelt post on X and in public remarks. “I went against all odds to fight for his presidency, because I believed in his power and his commitment to transform Kenya. And now that he is gone, the young generation must pick up the baton. The stars are aligned. The moment is nigh. Kenya needs a renaissance.”
Hypocrisy and Somber Reflection
Speaking after the state funeral in Bondo, Amisi did not mince his words. He criticized many of the tributes delivered during the ceremony, accusing a majority of speakers of hypocrisy. “Ninahuzunika sana,” he wrote, “seeing those who abandoned Baba when he needed them most now shout the loudest in his honour.”
He singled out some leaders who once distanced themselves from Raila, only to realign after his passing. For Amisi, their emotional eulogies ring hollow. “Hypocrites have successfully buried you, Jakom! But the struggle for a better Kenya continues. Aluta continua. Kenya needs a renaissance.”
Call to the Youth
Amisi expressed deep gratitude to young Kenyans for their solidarity during the mourning period. “Thank you, the great youth of Trans Nzoia, for walking with me — for giving me a shoulder to lean on as I mourned Baba,” he said. He reiterated his commitment to Raila’s values, presenting himself as “Baba mdogo” (Baba’s younger self), ready to unite the opposition and carry forward the fight for democracy.
A Warning to Opportunists
While Amisi praised some, he also issued a sharp warning to those he sees as political opportunists. He lamented that many at the funeral came not out of love, but to secure their positions within the current government. He urged Kenyans not to be fooled by empty condolences and called on his fellow opposition leaders to remain true to the struggle.
The Next Chapter
Amisi’s remarks come at a crucial time. He has publicly stated that he will not seek re-election after completing 15 years in Parliament. Instead, he has hinted at higher ambitions, leaving the door open to running for national office in the future.
But for now, his focus remains on preserving Raila’s legacy. “Baba, while alive, we never let you walk alone in the corridors of justice; we shall not let you down even in death,” Amisi vowed.
A Call for Respite
In a more gentle plea, Amisi has also urged mourners to pause visits to Raila’s Bondo home, asking for a compassionate break for the Odinga family in their time of grief.
