The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has strongly condemned the rising cases of violence in Kasipul Constituency ahead of the November 27 by-election, calling on security agencies and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to guarantee a peaceful poll.

In a statement issued on Friday by ODM chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, the party expressed deep concern over a violent disruption of a voter engagement meeting held by ODM candidate Boyd Were on Thursday.

According to the statement, a group of individuals alleged to be allied to a rival candidate stormed the venue, destroyed property, and attacked residents. The incident reportedly resulted in injuries and loss of life, sparking fear and tension in the area.

“This is not an isolated incident,” said Wanga, citing an earlier attack during a women’s empowerment programme in Sikri, where vehicles belonging to ODM supporters were vandalised and several women were harassed and injured.

“ODM will not be intimidated by acts of lawlessness aimed at derailing a free, fair, and peaceful election in Kasipul,” she added. “The people of Kasipul deserve the right to choose their leader without fear, intimidation, or coercion.”
