MP Wakili Edward Muriu Leads Community Sensitization on Ongoing Water Projects in Gatanga
Gatanga Member of Parliament Wakili Edward Muriu today led a successful community sensitization forum alongside Gatanga Water Managing Director Eng. Kariu at Gathanji, Kimata, and Kirathani markets, where they updated residents on the progress of two major water projects: the Ndakaini Dam Line Extension and the Ithanga–Kakuzi–Mitumbiri Water Project.
The Ndakaini Dam Line extension at Kiriaini is one of the flagship initiatives aimed at expanding access to clean and reliable water across Gatanga. Once completed, the project will supply piped water to several areas including Kiriaini, Gachogu, Nagara, Miiriini, Micharage, Kimata, Gathanji, Kosovo, Kiriti, Gathaini, Githunguri, and Mureke.
According to MP Muriu, the project is progressing steadily, with residents expected to start receiving water by 15th November.
Meanwhile, in Ithanga–Kakuzi–Mitumbiri, distribution of 90 kilometres of pipes has already begun to facilitate water supply to Kirathani, Mîûû, Muti, Kahuruko, Kihiu Mwiri, Greystone, Iembeni, and Mwanawikio.
MP Muriu reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that every household in Gatanga enjoys access to safe and consistent water, emphasizing that the ongoing projects reflect his dedication to service delivery and improving living standards.
“Our goal is simple — to make sure that every home in Gatanga has clean and reliable water. These projects are a step closer to achieving that dream,” said Wakili Muriu.
He also lauded the partnership with Gatanga Water Company, noting that collaborative efforts between leadership, agencies, and the community are essential for sustainable water distribution.
Residents expressed optimism and appreciation for the MP’s continued efforts to deliver on his development agenda, describing the projects as transformative for both domestic use and local agriculture.
The two water projects form part of MP Muriu’s broader initiative to improve infrastructure, enhance public health, and drive socio-economic growth in Gatanga Constituency.
