MCA pins Sakaja's administration over SHA disbursements amidst misappropriation claims

Nairobi South B Member of County Assembly Chege Waithera now wants Governor Johnson Sakaja's administration to explain the confusion around SHA funds allocated to all level IV and V hospitals.

The MCA who requested a statement from the Health Committee chaired by Mountain View MCA Maurice Ochieng, wants the executive to farnish the assembly with a full report detailing the status of SHA claims and disbursements for the last one year.

" The chair should inquire into the status report of the SHA disbursements to all level IV and V hospitals and all disbursements made to County Health facilities for the last one year vis a vis the claims made," part of the request reads

This comes against the backdrop of reports of  inequality in disbursement and potential misuse of funds disbursed to some of the level 1V hospitals.

In the last disbursements made in October,Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for instance recieved Sh52 million against claims totaling to over Sh500,000 million.

At the same time, data from the authority shows Mutuini recieved a mere Sh900,000 against requested claims of over Sh350 million.

Mama Margaret Kenyatta Hospital shockingly recieved on Sh20,000 against claims of over Sh100 million.

Residents have also questioned why some of the private facilities in the capital city are receiving over Sh100 million per every disbursement.

MCAs also want the hospital boards and Chief Executive Officers to issue a breakdown of how the funds disbursed are used.
