Luhya Elders Endorse Hon. Chris Wamalwa for Trans Nzoia Governorship Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Luhya Council of Elders has formally endorsed former Kiminini MP Hon. Dr. Chris Wamalwa, CBS, for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial race, positioning him as the community’s preferred candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced after a high-level consultative meeting held at Dr. Wamalwa’s residence in Kiminini, where elders praised his leadership track record, legislative accomplishments, and ability to unite the county’s diverse communities.

Luhya Council of Elders County Chairman Mr. Christopher Makokha said the decision was reached unanimously, citing Dr. Wamalwa’s ten-year service in Parliament and his reputation for integrity and development-oriented leadership.

“We have given our blessings to Dr. Wamalwa as he traverses the county to seek support from all communities. Trans Nzoia is cosmopolitan, and he has the capacity to unite our people,” Makokha stated.

The elders disclosed that the community had resolved not to issue multiple endorsements, stressing the importance of unity as the election season approaches. The move, they said, is aimed at avoiding internal divisions that have historically weakened the community’s political strength.

Council elder Rev. Ferdinand Wanyisia underscored this shift in approach, noting that backing several aspirants often fuels unnecessary rivalry.

“We are ending the culture of double endorsements. Our stand is clear. We now bless Dr. Wamalwa to hit the ground running,” he said.

Other council members echoed calls for peaceful, issue-based campaigns. They urged all political aspirants to prioritize development, unity, and policy-driven debates rather than ethnic or personal attacks.

Council member Mr. Cleophas Munialo emphasized that Trans Nzoia’s progress depends on leaders who are focused on tangible solutions.

“Political competition must move away from personal attacks and tribal politics. Let the debate be anchored on ideas and real development,” Munialo remarked.

In his address, Dr. Chris Wamalwa expressed gratitude for the endorsement, describing it as a significant vote of confidence from respected community leaders. He pledged to intensify engagement across the county to craft a people-centered manifesto.

“I am humbled by your confidence. We will now intensify our countywide consultations to ensure our policies reflect the aspirations of the people of Trans Nzoia,” he said.

Dr. Wamalwa reiterated his commitment to unity, equitable development, and economic growth as he seeks to become Trans Nzoia’s third governor. He assured residents that his campaign will focus on inclusive governance and transforming the county’s economic landscape.

The endorsement marks one of the earliest formal declarations by community leadership in Trans Nzoia ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial contest, signaling heightened political activity as aspirants begin positioning themselves for the race.
