Kenyan Trio Set for UK Darts Championships as Sport Turns Professional

Kenya will field three players in major international darts competitions in the United Kingdom this December, marking a significant step in the country’s transition from amateur to professional darts. The trio will feature in separate senior and junior categories, giving Kenya representation across multiple championships.

According to the Kenya Darts Federation (KDF), the players have been preparing for months as the sport gains structure and competitive standards locally.

“This is a historic moment for us. For the first time, we are sending players to three different elite events at the same time,” said KDF secretary James Mwangi. “It shows how far the sport has come and the potential we have on the international stage.”

The players whose names will be unveiled formally during a send-off ceremony later this month will compete in World Darts Federation–sanctioned tournaments, including junior events designed to nurture future stars.

One of the senior players expressed optimism ahead of the trip, saying the exposure will be invaluable.

“Competing in the UK is a dream for any darts player. We want to show that Kenyan talent belongs at the top level,” he said.

KDF officials hope the international appearances will boost local interest, attract sponsors, and inspire more youth to take up the sport.

“This is just the beginning,” Mwangi added. “We’re building a pipeline that will make darts a fully professional sport in Kenya.”
