Governor Natembeya Partners with Kenya Red Cross to Support 9,000 Flood-Affected Families
Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya has announced a major humanitarian intervention to support 9,000 families affected by recent floods across the county. The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross Society, aims to provide emergency relief and restore dignity to households displaced by the heavy rains.
Speaking during the flag-off of the relief distribution exercise, Governor Natembeya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting the lives and welfare of residents facing the devastating impact of floods.
“In collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross, we’ve provided essential support to 9,000 flood-affected families,” Governor Natembeya said. “The relief package includes food items such as maize, beans, rice, cooking oil, and sugar, as well as non-food items like blankets, mosquito nets, mattresses, and tents. We’re dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community in the face of natural disasters.”
The distribution exercise targets the most affected areas within Trans Nzoia County, where families have been displaced or lost property due to the ongoing heavy rains.
Governor Natembeya commended the Kenya Red Cross and other humanitarian partners for their quick response and continued collaboration in disaster management. He emphasized the importance of joint efforts between county governments, national agencies, and development partners in mitigating the effects of climate-related disasters.
“Disaster response is a shared responsibility. Through partnerships and preparedness, we can reduce the impact of natural calamities and safeguard our people,” he added.
The governor also urged residents living in flood-prone areas to heed safety advisories and relocate to higher ground as the rains persist.
Kenya Red Cross officials present at the event lauded the county government’s proactive approach and assured continued support in reaching vulnerable communities.
