Dr. Reuben Kigame Criticizes Government Over Governance, Debt Burden, and Youth Relations

Presidential aspirant Dr. Reuben Kigame has issued sharp criticism of the current administration, saying the government has “ignored the fundamentals” of good governance and is steering the country in the wrong direction.

Speaking during on Citizen TV, Dr. Kigame faulted the state for operating “as if it is a business,” arguing that national leadership should prioritize citizens’ welfare over profit-driven approaches.

“Looking at the state of the nation, the government has ignored the fundamentals. We are heading in the wrong direction. We run the country as if it is a business,” he said.

Dr. Kigame also raised concerns about Kenya’s growing public debt, noting that the burden has become unsustainable for ordinary citizens.

“When you hear experts tell you that about 70% of our income goes to debt, they are definitely true. We need to understand why we borrow too much,” he stated.

The presidential hopeful criticized what he described as government insensitivity toward public concerns, citing rising public frustration and political disillusionment.

“A government is meant to serve the people. If you are in government and ignore what people are saying, you are serving your interest. You can see the people literally shouting at the president ‘One Term!’ It is because they are tired,” Dr. Kigame remarked.

He further accused the government of mishandling youth issues, particularly in the area of security and public demonstrations.

“The government deals with young people with terror. They call them terrorists…” he said, arguing that young Kenyans deserve dialogue and opportunities rather than intimidation.

Dr. Kigame, a long-time advocate for governance reforms, reiterated his commitment to championing people-centered leadership as the country approaches the next general election.
