Dr. Catherine Nyongesa Calls for Vigilance During Stomach/Gastric Cancer Awareness Month
Texas Cancer Center has called on Kenyans to be more alert to early warning signs of stomach cancer, as the country joins the global community in marking Stomach/Gastric Cancer Awareness Month.
Dr. Catherine Nyongesa, the Clinical Oncologist and Founder of Texas Cancer Center, urged the public not to ignore persistent symptoms that may point to the disease, noting that early diagnosis significantly improves treatment outcomes.
She said common signs such as persistent indigestion, abdominal discomfort, unexplained weight loss, early satiety, or changes in bowel habits should prompt immediate medical evaluation.
“Many patients present to hospital when the disease is already advanced. We encourage anyone experiencing unusual or prolonged symptoms to seek medical attention without delay. Early detection remains the most effective tool in improving survival rates,” Dr. Nyongesa said.
She reiterated that increased awareness, timely screening, and regular medical check-ups are essential in reducing the burden of gastric cancer in the country.
Texas Cancer Center continues to provide comprehensive cancer care, including specialized diagnosis, treatment, and patient support services.
