DCI Arrests Fake KDF Brigadier Running Recruitment Scam in Kilimani
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a man accused of impersonating a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) brigadier and defrauding unsuspecting youths through a fake recruitment scheme.
The suspect, identified as Joshua Mutui Muimi, allegedly presented himself as a senior Kenya Air Force officer while extorting money from desperate jobseekers. According to investigators, Muimi has been issuing fraudulent admission letters to the Recruit Training School (RTS) in Eldoret, exploiting the aspirations of young Kenyans hoping to join the military.
Acting on intelligence, Parklands-based detectives raided his rented apartment in Kilimani, where they found him dressed in full Kenya Air Force regalia. A detailed search of the premises uncovered a range of incriminating materials, including documents bearing the Ministry of Defence logo, six fake RTS admission letters all bearing the same serial number, seven fingerprint forms, and a Yilmaz Defence Industry ammunition manufacturing manual.
The DCI confirmed that the suspect is in custody and is currently being processed ahead of his arraignment.
In a statement, the agency urged members of the public to be cautious and to avoid shortcuts in matters of security-sector recruitment. The DCI reaffirmed that genuine KDF enlistment is free, fair, and transparent, and warned that the law will firmly deal with individuals who prey on the hopes of young Kenyans.
