CS Murkomen Holds Consultative Meeting with Turkana and West Pokot Leaders to Strengthen Security and Development

Turkana/West Pokot Counties – Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Kipchumba Murkomen, held a consultative meeting with elected leaders from Turkana and West Pokot Counties to discuss strategies for enhancing security, promoting social cohesion, and driving socio-economic development in the region.

While the counties have largely remained peaceful, recent incidents of insecurity in certain areas prompted the urgent meeting. CS Murkomen emphasized the need for concerted efforts to address these challenges, highlighting the importance of community engagement alongside intelligence-led operations.

During the meeting, leaders resolved to fast-track the streamlining of mining activities, which have been identified as a key driver of insecurity in the region and beyond. CS Murkomen also cautioned leaders against making inflammatory remarks or politicizing security challenges, stating that anyone found in violation of the law would be held accountable.

“Our intelligence-led operations will dismantle all criminal networks and hold accountable any officers found colluding with them. Security remains a non-negotiable priority,” said CS Murkomen.

The leaders in attendance pledged to enhance inter-community peace dialogues once security operations conclude, and to support the operationalization of gazetted administrative units in areas prone to insecurity.

Present at the meeting were Senators James Lomenen (Turkana) and Julius Murgor (West Pokot), as well as Members of Parliament Rael Kasiwai (West Pokot), Daniel Nanok (Turkana West), Protus Akujah (Loima), Ekwom Nabuin (Turkana North), Peter Lochokapong (Sigor), and Titus Lotee (Kacheliba).

CS Murkomen was accompanied by GSU Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni, Principal Administrative Secretaries Jacob Narengo (Internal Security) and Beverly Opwora (National Administration), and Secretary for National Administration Moses Lilan.
