CS Murkomen Appeals to Parliament for Increased Funding for Security and Infrastructure
Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen appeared before the Senate Plenary today, urging Parliament to increase funding for security infrastructure, including roads, police housing, and modern communication systems, to strengthen the country’s security efforts.
Speaking on matters of national administration and security, CS Murkomen highlighted the success of the Jukwaa la Usalama engagements held across all 47 counties. He noted that these forums have enhanced collaboration between security agencies, local administrators, and communities, addressing security concerns at the grassroots level.
The CS also reported progress under Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) in Kerio Valley, Samburu, Laikipia, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, and parts of Meru counties. According to Murkomen, peace has returned to these areas, trading centres have reopened, and schools are operating normally.
However, Murkomen stressed that sustained peace requires more than security forces. He called on Parliament to allocate resources for building security roads, improving police housing, and acquiring modern communication systems, particularly in remote and banditry-prone regions.
“Banditry will not be won through guns and arrests alone but through the development of infrastructure such as roads and enhanced security equipment,” he said.
CS Murkomen emphasized that the government’s long-term goal is for all Kenyans, regardless of location, to enjoy equal safety and access to services. He noted that “lasting peace comes when security and development move together,” adding that infrastructure investments are key not only for security but also for restoring dignity and opportunity to historically marginalized communities.
He concluded by reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to modernizing the security sector and investing in systems that promote peace, stability, and national unity, contingent on continued parliamentary support.
