ATPU Arrests 22 Suspected Terror Financiers and Facilitators in Nationwide Counter-Terror Sweep

The Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) has intensified its crackdown on suspected terror financiers, recruiters, and facilitators, arresting 22 individuals in a multi-county operation spanning Nairobi, Mombasa, Kapseret, Moyale, and Marsabit.

Among those arrested is prominent Mombasa-based lawyer Andrew Chacha Mwita, who was apprehended on Friday, November 14, 2025. According to investigators, Mwita is suspected of financing terrorism and was tracked down during a sting operation targeting individuals believed to be supporting or benefiting from terror networks.

Mwita was presented before the Kahawa Law Courts on Monday, where detectives sought a 20-day custodial order to complete investigations. The court is expected to deliver its ruling on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

In Nairobi, the custodial application hearing for four other suspects — Richard Muriuki Murimi, Said Galgalo Duba, Ali Mohamed, and Dhalha Abdi Mohamed — was deferred to today, November 18, 2025.

Another suspect, Anthony Odhiambo Odwuor, who was traced and arrested in Kapseret, will know the outcome of a 15-day custodial request on November 25, 2025.

In Mombasa, the court will rule on November 26, 2025, on a miscellaneous application seeking 20 days of detention for Miriam Ali Abdalla and Aisha Abdullahi, both arrested in the coastal city.

The same day will also see rulings on a 30-day custodial application against six suspects arrested in Marsabit: Fatuma Yabalo Guyo, Jilo Arafti Halake, Ajirena Halake Sora, Safia Ture Bidu, Kabale Duba Ali, and Abdisalam Hassan Charfi.

Hearing of the miscellaneous applications for the remaining seven suspects is set to continue today at the Kahawa Law Courts.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reaffirmed its continued commitment to counter-terrorism efforts, asserting that the agency “remains red-hot in the fight against terrorism and will leave no stone unturned” as investigations proceed.
