Shock and Grief in Lugari as University Student Brutally Murdered in Suspected Love Triangle
Grief and shock have gripped the residents of Nambilima village in Lugari Constituency following the brutal murder of a university student in a suspected love triangle gone wrong.
Faith Kiliswa Namakwangwachi, a fourth-year student at Alupe University, was found dead on Tuesday, September 16, at Mbande Guest House in Matete. The 23-year-old had checked into the facility earlier that day with her boyfriend, identified as Dubicuss Wafula.
According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect allegedly stabbed Faith multiple times shortly after the two had been intimate. The motive is suspected to be linked to jealousy and relationship disputes, although authorities are still piecing together the full details.
After the gruesome act, Wafula reportedly fled the scene in a bid to evade arrest. He was later apprehended in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, while attempting to travel to Nairobi. Police confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
Lugari Sub-County Police Commander,, confirmed the arrest and described the crime as “deeply disturbing.” He assured the public that justice would be served and urged individuals involved in domestic or relationship disputes to seek help before resorting to violence.
Faith’s death has sent shockwaves across her community and university. Friends, family, and classmates have expressed their disbelief and sorrow, remembering her as a bright, ambitious young woman with a promising future.
“We are heartbroken,” said a family spokesperson. “Faith was full of life and had big dreams. We cannot understand why someone would do this to her.”
Alupe University has also issued a statement mourning the tragic loss of one of its students and offering counseling services to affected students and staff.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the Kakamega County Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, police are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
