Shock and Fear Grip Mariashoni After Brutal Murder of Couple
Residents of Mitarakwa village in Mariashoni Ward, Molo Sub-County, are reeling in shock after the grisly murder of a couple whose bodies were discovered dumped in a water pond under mysterious circumstances.
The body of the woman was recovered on Sunday evening, while her husband’s body was found early Monday morning, intensifying fear and grief in the normally quiet village.
According to local sources, the couple had not been seen since Saturday, prompting family members and neighbors to raise the alarm. A search led to the horrifying discovery in a nearby pond, sparking panic across the community.
Tension flared at the scene when police officers arrived to retrieve the bodies. Angry residents, frustrated by what they described as slow response and lack of security in the area, heckled the officers, forcing them to withdraw temporarily under heavy guard.
Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a male farm worker employed by the couple. The suspect is currently being held at Elburgon Police Station and is assisting detectives with ongoing investigations. The couple’s house help is also reported missing, and a manhunt has been launched to trace their whereabouts.
"The matter is under active investigation. We are pursuing all leads, including the possibility of involvement by someone known to the victims," a senior police officer from Molo Sub-County told reporters.
The motive behind the brutal killings remains unclear, but residents fear it may be linked to a domestic or property-related dispute. Community leaders have urged residents to remain calm and allow the police to carry out their investigations.
"This is a heartbreaking moment for our community. We ask the police to act swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice," said a local elder during a community gathering on Monday.
