Police Seize Narcotics Worth Sh117,000, Impound Motorcycle in Homa Bay Drug Crackdown

Residents of Ndhiwa woke up to heightened security operations on Wednesday after police officers seized narcotics and impounded a motorcycle in the ongoing war against drugs.

According to authorities, officers from Ndhiwa Police Station were on routine patrol along the Ndhiwa–Sori Road when they spotted a suspicious motorcycle, registration KMGK 059L, carrying the rider, two passengers, and a conspicuously heavy piece of luggage.

When ordered to stop, the rider defied the command and sped off toward Rodi, sparking a dramatic chase. Sensing imminent arrest, the suspects abandoned the motorcycle and fled into a nearby thicket, leaving behind their cargo.

On inspection, police discovered a sack stuffed with 390 rolls of bhang (cannabis sativa), with an estimated street value of KSh117,000. The motorcycle was immediately impounded, and the contraband secured as exhibits.

Speaking after the incident, a police spokesperson praised the officers’ vigilance and assured the public that a manhunt is underway to arrest the fleeing suspects.

“This seizure is a strong message to drug peddlers who are destroying lives in our communities. We are determined to ensure Homa Bay—and Kenya as a whole—is free from the menace of narcotics,” the spokesperson said.

The National Police Service urged residents to support the fight against drugs by sharing information about suspicious activities, adding that community cooperation is critical in protecting young people from falling victim to drug abuse.

For many locals, the seizure was both a relief and a reminder of the silent battle against drugs in rural towns and trading centers. “We have lost too many of our youth to bhang,” said one resident. “It’s encouraging to see action being taken.”
