KANU Official Defends President Ruto’s Legacy, Criticizes “One-Term” Narrative

The Vice-Chairperson of KANU in Uasin Gishu County, Kephas Ochieng, has come out strongly in defense of President William Ruto, dismissing the growing political rhetoric around limiting the President to a single term in office.

Speaking during a local political forum on Monday, Ochieng accused opposition leaders of lacking a constructive agenda and instead focusing on what he termed as "baseless" calls for President Ruto to be a one-term leader.

"Nowadays, it seems 'one term' has become an agenda for the opposition leaders. They don’t have anything good to tell Kenyans anymore," said Ochieng. "But let me remind my learned friends that President William Ruto will serve his second term until he transforms this country."

The outspoken county leader further suggested that even if a future president were to serve only one term, it would not be unprecedented — hinting at potential legislative changes.

“The one that will come after him can serve one term; it’s still okay. We will enact a law that ensures that happens,” he added, without specifying details of such legislation.

Ochieng concluded his remarks by rallying support behind the President’s development agenda, coining the popular phrase associated with Ruto’s administration: "Ruto Delivers – Ni Kazi Bila Break."

President Ruto is currently in his first term after winning the 2022 General Election under the Kenya Kwanza Alliance. While the Constitution allows for two five-year terms, the political discourse around his re-election has begun to take center stage, especially among opposition figures.

KANU, once a dominant political force in Kenya, is now part of the opposition but continues to have members who support or criticize the current regime on various issues.
