Jepchirchir Sprints to Gold in Tokyo Marathon as Kenya Shines Again on Global Stage

 

Kenya's long-distance running legacy soared to new heights on Sunday morning after Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir claimed a dramatic gold medal in the women’s marathon at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

In a race that kept fans on edge until the final metres, Jepchirchir displayed tactical brilliance and unmatched grit to outkick Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa in a nail-biting sprint finish, stopping the clock at 2:24:43.

The thrilling victory was met with jubilation back home, where senior government officials, including Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen, joined millions of Kenyans in celebrating the historic achievement.
