Sports PS Elijah Mwangi Engages Stakeholders in Murang’a to Bolster Education and Sports Development
In a bid to strengthen stakeholder collaboration and enhance community development, Principal Secretary for Sports Elijah Mwangi held a high-level engagement with the Board of Management of Mumbi Girls High School to discuss strategic interventions aimed at improving both education and sports infrastructure in the region.
The meeting, which took place in Murang’a County, was part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Sports to promote inclusive dialogue and transparency around key government projects. The Board, led by Chairperson Mr. Peter Kaburi, was briefed on several initiatives targeting the improvement of learning environments and student welfare.
Among the key issues discussed were plans to construct a perimeter wall around Mumbi Girls High School for enhanced security, and the development of a modern playing field within the school to promote sports and physical education.
PS Mwangi emphasized the importance of keeping stakeholders well-informed and involved in project implementation, noting that their support is critical to the success and sustainability of developmental initiatives.
“Promoting understanding of projects with stakeholders is necessary in anchoring support for educational and developmental initiatives that improve a community’s welfare,” said Mwangi.
A major highlight of the discussion was the progress report on the construction of Mumbi Stadium, a flagship sporting facility in Murang’a County. The PS gave an extensive briefing on the stadium’s design, which includes eight-lane tracks, a standard football pitch, modern terraces, and a VIP pavilion.
Mwangi described the stadium as a transformative investment for the region, poised to become one of the premier sporting hubs in Central Kenya. He underscored the stadium’s potential benefits, not just for the school, but for the broader Murang’a community, including opportunities for talent development, economic activity, and community engagement.
“Like all other major transformative projects, the construction of Mumbi Stadium has generated great excitement, support, and curiosity from the community,” he said. “Our commitment remains firm, and we continue to engage in candid, truthful, and honest conversations with all stakeholders.”
He added that such engagements are vital in offering accurate information, addressing concerns, and ensuring all parties are aligned towards a shared vision.
Also present during the engagement was Ms. Caroline Kariuki, the Sports Deputy Director, along with other senior officers from the ministry.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to completing the Mumbi Stadium project and enhancing the infrastructure of surrounding learning institutions. The collaboration between the Ministry of Sports and local educational stakeholders signals a broader national agenda that prioritizes youth empowerment through sports and education.
