Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior Mourns Slain Advocate Kyalo Mbobu, Calls for Swift Justice

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior has expressed deep sorrow and outrage following the tragic killing of prominent lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was shot dead in broad daylight by unknown assailants along a busy road.

In a heartfelt condolence message, Governor Kilonzo described Mbobu as a mentor, a family friend, and an astute legal mind, whose contribution to the legal profession and personal impact on his life was both profound and enduring.

“On behalf of my wife Anita, the County Government of Makueni, and myself, I extend our sincere condolences to the wife, family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors of the late Kyalo Mbobu,” the Governor said.

The late advocate was no stranger to Governor Kilonzo, who recalled their long-standing professional relationship dating back to his early days as a legal intern at Kilonzo & Company Advocates.

“He was a meticulous and brilliant lawyer. I had the privilege of knowing him from the time I was a legal intern. More recently, he played a key role in successfully defending the election petition filed against my victory in the last general election,” the Governor noted.

Governor Kilonzo described Mbobu’s murder as not only a personal loss but also a huge blow to the legal fraternity and the nation at large. He condemned the incident in the strongest terms, calling it "deeply disturbing" that such a crime could be committed "in broad daylight and on a very busy road."

“We are hopeful that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will act swiftly and decisively to identify, arrest, and bring to justice both the perpetrators and the masterminds behind this cold-blooded killing,” he added.

The Governor's tribute painted a picture of a principled legal professional who upheld justice and mentored many within the field. Mbobu’s death, he said, leaves a void in both the legal and civic communities.

As the country continues to grapple with rising concerns over public safety and gun-related violence, Governor Kilonzo’s statement also served as a call to action—urging law enforcement and the judiciary to treat this case with the urgency and seriousness it deserves.

“We have lost a rare legal gem. Rest in peace, my senior and mentor,” he concluded.

The late Kyalo Mbobu is remembered as a highly respected advocate, known for his sharp intellect, calm demeanor, and dedication to the rule of law. Tributes from across the legal profession continue to pour in, with colleagues describing him as a pillar of integrity and professionalism.
