Government Allocated Ksh 1.2 Billion For Civil Servant's Injury and Accident Claims

Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Imbunya, has announced that the government has set aside Ksh 1.2 billion in the 2025/2026 financial year to settle claims under the Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA), Last expense  and the Group Personal Accident (GPA) scheme.

The allocation will cater for civil servants’ claims accumulated from April 15, 2024, to date.

Speaking during a meeting with senior directors and top policy makers from the State Department, Dr. Imbunya directed that the disbursement process begin immediately under the implementation of the framework to be developed with the supervision of the Director of Human Policy and her office.

She emphasized the importance of establishing a working group comprising officers well-versed in the legal frameworks governing the compensation schemes to ensure an efficient, transparent, and claimant-friendly process.

“The government is committed to ensuring that civil servants who have been affected receive their rightful compensation. We must create a process that is simple, legally sound, and responsive to the needs of the claimants,” Dr. Imbunya said.

The PS further revealed that President William Ruto will officiate the disbursement of the first batch of payments.

She directed the State Department for Public Service to establish systems and a clear work plan framework, including consolidating relevant data, to guarantee that all claims are processed through proper and legally accepted channels.

A special committee will also be tasked with confirming the current status of claims, consolidating information, and establishing the total number of pending cases in collaboration with other relevant government institutions.
