𝐊𝐌𝐓𝐂 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐕𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has received a major boost in its training and outreach capacity following the flagging off of eight new vehicles by Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale, EGH, at the KMTC Headquarters on Wednesday, 17th September 2025.

 

The vehicles, which increase KMTC’s fleet to 158, will expand student access to clinical placement sites, rural training areas, and community health programmes, while also supporting medical camps, environmental sustainability initiatives, and social outreach projects. The move is expected to provide students with hands-on experience and strengthen service delivery, particularly in underserved communities.

 

Welcoming both new and continuing students to the 2025/2026 academic year, CS Duale reported that 11,058 students have already reported out of the expected 15,000. With 91 campuses spread across 45 counties, KMTC continues to serve as a cornerstone of Kenya’s health sector. By December, the College is projected to graduate 22,000 health professionals, further bolstering the national and global health workforce.

 

The CS reaffirmed government’s strong support for KMTC, noting that 57 campuses have been included in the Affordable Housing Programme to provide hostels and student villages, ensuring a conducive learning environment. He further highlighted reforms to modernise infrastructure, recruit more lecturers, and equip campuses to meet both current and future health challenges.

 

Equitable access to health training remains central to KMTC’s mandate. Admissions continue to be managed through KUCCPS to guarantee fairness, while financial support through HELB ensures opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

 

“KMTC plays an indispensable role in building the health workforce, which is the most critical pillar of the Taifa Care Model and Universal Health Coverage (UHC),” CS Duale said, urging students to embrace diligence, empathy, and innovation as they embark on their training.

 

He commended the KMTC Board, Management, staff, and partners for their visionary leadership, including plans to expand facilities and procure more vehicles to support training and community service.
