57 Rifles Voluntarily Surrendered in Kerio Valley
Efforts to rid Kerio Valley of illegal firearms have received a major boost after residents voluntarily surrendered 57 rifles and several rounds of ammunition to Tot Police Station.
The peaceful disarmament exercise, which has been ongoing in the region, is part of a broader government initiative aimed at strengthening national security and restoring long-term stability in an area long affected by banditry and violent crime.
Security officials hailed the development as a critical milestone, noting that illegal firearms have historically fueled armed conflict and insecurity in the Kerio Valley.
“This progress underscores the power of dialogue, collaboration, and mutual trust between security agencies and the communities they serve,” the National Police Service said in a statement.
The Service commended members of the public for their cooperation and urged continued participation in the voluntary disarmament drive. Citizens were reminded that they can safely surrender firearms or provide information through the nearest police station, toll-free hotlines 999, 911, or 112, or anonymously via #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp 0709 570 000.
Authorities have pledged to sustain the exercise, stressing that eliminating illegal weapons is key to enhancing peace, safety, and development in the Kerio Valley and beyond.
