41 Illegal Firearms Surrendered in Tot, Boosting Disarmament Efforts in Elgeyo Marakwet

Security agencies in Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet County, have received 41 illegally-held firearms along with ammunition, voluntarily surrendered by residents in the latest phase of the government’s disarmament campaign.

The handover, which took place on Tuesday, marks a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the region, which has in the past grappled with insecurity linked to illegal weapons. Authorities confirmed that the surrendered firearms have since been secured and will undergo further administrative processes.

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) commended residents for their cooperation and urged others still holding illegal arms to take advantage of the voluntary surrender initiative.

“This large-scale voluntary surrender is a major boost to our peacebuilding efforts. We thank those who have heeded the call and encourage others to do the same. Working together, we can make our communities safer,” the NPS noted.

The Service also appealed to the public to continue partnering with law enforcement by sharing information on suspicious activities through local police stations or anonymously via toll-free hotlines 999, 911, 112, #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203), or WhatsApp 0709 570 000.

The voluntary surrender initiative is part of a wider disarmament strategy aimed at curbing armed conflict and promoting peaceful coexistence across pastoralist and border regions
