Uasin Gishu Politician Zulfikar Ousman Backs President Ruto's Tough Stance on Corruption

Uasin Gishu politician Zulfikar Ousman has strongly backed President William Ruto’s recent remarks condemning corruption among public officials, calling on the Head of State to take bold action by naming, shaming, and prosecuting those involved.
Speaking in Eldoret, Ousman said he fully supports President Ruto’s efforts to clean up the government and restore public trust, emphasizing that accountability must begin at the top.
“I support President Ruto's move and urge him to go a step further by naming and shaming the corrupt. Let them be an example to others with similar behaviors. If corruption is to end, it must start from the top,” said Ousman.
He added that those implicated in corruption must not only be arrested and charged in court, but also compelled to return all stolen public funds to the Treasury.
“There’s no reason why anyone who has looted public resources should walk free. We need to see arrests, court cases, and full recovery of everything stolen,” he said.
Ousman, who has previously contested twice for the position of Member of County Assembly (MCA), questioned the effectiveness of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) vetting process. He noted that all candidates are required to fill EACC clearance forms, yet individuals involved in corruption still find their way into leadership.
“We were all required to fill EACC forms, and those found with any integrity issues are not supposed to be cleared to run. So why are corrupt individuals still holding office?” he posed.
He further urged religious leaders to take an active role in the fight against corruption, saying they have a moral responsibility to speak out and guide society.
“If corruption continues unchecked, there will be no development. Religious leaders must rise and speak against it because corruption denies citizens services, stifles growth, and hurts the poor the most,” he said.
Zulfikar’s remarks come amid growing public concern over the misuse of public funds in both national and county governments. His comments reflect mounting pressure on the government to go beyond rhetoric and take decisive action against graft.
