Sports CS Salim Mvurya Chairs Security Briefing Ahead of Harambee Stars–Zambia Clash
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has assured football fans of robust security arrangements ahead of Sunday’s high-profile clash between Harambee Stars and Zambia.
Speaking after chairing a high-level meeting in Nairobi, Mvurya said the government is working closely with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Kenyan security agencies to ensure the match runs smoothly and safely.
The meeting brought together Dr. Christian Emeruwa, CAF’s Head of Security, and senior Kenyan security officers led by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja. Discussions focused on reviewing, managing, and enhancing tournament security operations, with special attention to crowd control, team safety, and emergency response measures.
“We are committed to delivering a safe and enjoyable experience for players, officials, and fans. This match is not just about football — it’s about showcasing Kenya’s ability to host international events to the highest standards,” Mvurya said.
The CS added that joint security teams will be deployed in and around the stadium, with enhanced screening at entry points, traffic management plans, and medical response units on standby.
Kenya is hosting the match as part of its ongoing bid to cement its reputation as a leading sports destination in Africa. The Harambee Stars–Zambia tie is expected to draw thousands of supporters, both local and foreign.
“With the measures we have put in place, fans can come in large numbers, cheer their teams, and leave the venue feeling safe,” Mvurya assured.
