President Ruto Hails Kenya’s Under-20 Women’s Volleyball Team After Historic African Championship Victory

President William Ruto has congratulated Kenya’s Under-20 women’s volleyball team for securing a stunning 3–1 victory over hosts Cameroon to clinch the African Nations U20 Championship title in Yaoundé on Monday night.

In his message, the Head of State praised the young stars for displaying exceptional talent, unity, and determination that saw them overcome strong competition on their way to continental glory.

“From the football pitch to the volleyball court, our athletes are showing Africa what unity, skill, and resilience can achieve,” President Ruto said. “This victory is not just for the team, but for the entire nation.”

The President extended special recognition to Terry Tata Mallin, who was crowned both Best Opposite and Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament. Mallin’s performance capped an extraordinary run in which she claimed MVP titles in matches against Egypt, Senegal, Burundi, and Uganda.

President Ruto also lauded Milka Akinyi, who was named Best Outside Hitter, for her brilliance, consistency, and key role in the team’s success.

“This emphatic triumph is a testament to resilience, skill, and an unshakable fighting spirit. It inspires a new generation of volleyball stars and reaffirms Kenya’s place at the top of African sports,” the President added.

The win marks another milestone for Kenya’s growing dominance in women’s volleyball, with the junior team following in the footsteps of the country’s senior side, the Malkia Strikers.

“Hats off, champions,” President Ruto said. “You have made the nation proud and proven once again that Kenya shines brightest when we stand together.”
