NOC-K Deputy President Barnaba Korir Appoints 5-Year-Old Sensation as Kip Keino Classic Kids Ambassador

In a heartwarming gesture that underscores the future of Kenyan athletics, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) Deputy President Barnaba Korir has appointed 5-year-old Leah Minage as the Kids Ambassador for the prestigious Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour.

Leah captured national attention during the Tokyo 2025 Athletics Trials held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex last month, where her electrifying energy, raw talent, and fearless performance stood out amid seasoned athletes. Despite her age, her passion for the sport was palpable — a moment that quickly went viral and warmed the hearts of millions across the country.

Moved by her remarkable display, Korir invited Leah, her mother, aunt, and younger brother to his office for a special meeting. During the visit, he personally commended the young star and offered guidance to her mother on nurturing Leah's evident talent from an early age.

“As a token of encouragement and in recognition of her enthusiasm and potential, I presented Leah with a full Team Kenya Nike uniform,” Korir shared. “She will now serve as the Kids Ambassador for the Kip Keino Classic, and will also be invited to participate in upcoming Athletics Kenya Kids competitions.”

The move signals Athletics Kenya’s continued commitment to identifying and supporting grassroots talent. Korir emphasized the federation’s dedication to building structures that recognize and elevate young athletes like Leah.

“At Athletics Kenya, we remain focused on investing in the stars of tomorrow,” he added. “Leah is a shining example of the spirit and promise that lives within our youth. We will walk with her and many others to ensure their dreams take flight.”

Leah’s new role as Kids Ambassador will see her actively involved in promoting children’s participation in athletics, inspiring her peers, and representing the next generation at national and international events.
