Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano EGH, has lauded Kenya’s national football team, the Harambee Stars, following their outstanding performance in their debut match at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024).
Miano, an ardent supporter of Kenyan sports, joined President William Ruto, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and thousands of fans at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, to cheer on the team as they faced the formidable Democratic Republic of Congo’s Leopards.
The match, which marked Kenya’s historic participation in the tournament, proved to be an electrifying spectacle, with the Harambee Stars securing a crucial and morale-boosting win. Miano hailed the team’s stellar performance, describing it as both “thrilling and inspirational.”
“This victory is not just about football, it is about the spirit of Kenya. It demonstrates resilience, teamwork, and the belief that our country can achieve greatness in every field,” she said after the match.
The CS highlighted the unifying power of sports, noting how the game brought together leaders across the political divide and thousands of Kenyans from different walks of life, all united in support of the national team.
Miano further emphasized the importance of investing in sporting talent and infrastructure, saying it plays a critical role in promoting tourism, enhancing national pride, and providing opportunities for youth empowerment.
“Our sports talent is one of our greatest tourism assets. Every time we host or participate in major tournaments, we showcase Kenya’s vibrant spirit to the world, and that is priceless for our tourism brand,” she added.
The Harambee Stars’ victory has ignited optimism about their prospects in the championship, with fans hopeful of a deep run in the tournament. For Miano, the win symbolizes a new chapter for Kenyan football, one that inspires the next generation of athletes to dream bigger and aim higher.
