Waluke Dismisses Governor Natembeya's Remarks, Defends Academic Credentials
Sirisia MP John Waluke has strongly dismissed recent remarks made by Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, accusing the county chief of peddling falsehoods and disrespecting his political and academic journey.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Waluke refuted claims allegedly made by Governor Natembeya suggesting that he lacks basic literacy skills, terming the remarks as "ignorant, demeaning, and completely detached from reality."
"It is absurd and deeply insulting for Mr. Natembeya to insinuate that I cannot write my own name, especially considering I recently completed a Master’s degree and am now pursuing a PhD in academia. Such comments are not only reckless but also expose his disdain for fellow leaders and the truth," said Waluke.
The MP, a former military officer and longtime political figure in Western Kenya, also revisited his early interactions with Natembeya during the latter’s time as a personal assistant to the late powerful Cabinet Minister John Michuki.
"Back then, Natembeya was just a PA. He had no power, no influence, and no capacity to help me access services when I was actively lobbying for the creation of Sirisia District. In fact, he used to come to me for financial assistance, and out of kindness, I helped him," Waluke stated.
The Sirisia legislator went on to challenge the governor to come clean about his own track record, particularly during his tenure as Rift Valley Regional Commissioner.
"Let Governor Natembeya tell Kenyans how many Luhyas he employed or promoted when he held that powerful office. It's one thing to criticize, but it’s another to lead by example," he added.
Waluke further urged leaders to rise above petty attacks and instead focus on service delivery and unity.
"Leadership should be about integrity, truth, and development — not pettiness and false narratives meant to boost one’s public image by tearing others down," he concluded.
