Oscar Sudi Reacts to Gachagua's Departure: “Kenya Breathes a Sigh of Relief”
Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has sparked fresh controversy with a strongly worded statement following the departure of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to the United States.
In a post published on his official Facebook page, Sudi appeared to welcome Gachagua’s exit from the country, describing it as a moment of national relief.
“Kenya breathes a sigh of relief as its most notorious troublemaker and goon departs. Peace can now flourish,” Sudi wrote.
The remarks come just hours after Gachagua posted a short farewell message on social media, stating, “Tonight, I leave the country for the United States of America. God Bless Kenya.” The purpose of his trip remains undisclosed, though it has fueled widespread speculation given the political undercurrents in recent weeks.
Sudi’s comments are being viewed as the latest sign of deepening rifts within the Kenya Kwanza camp, where divisions have become increasingly public since mid-2024. Once seen as a close ally of President William Ruto, Gachagua’s relationship with key figures in the administration appears to have frayed, with some leaders now openly criticizing him.
While Sudi has previously clashed with Gachagua over matters of governance and political loyalty, today's statement marks one of his most direct and personal attacks.
The Facebook post has since drawn mixed reactions, with some praising Sudi for his candor while others accused him of disrespect and political immaturity.
Political analysts warn that the escalating tensions could further splinter the ruling coalition, especially as leaders begin to position themselves for the 2027 general election.
