Multi-Agency Security Team Seizes Narcotic Drugs in Samburu Shootout

A joint security operation in Samburu County has led to the recovery of over 62 kilograms of cannabis sativa following an armed confrontation with suspected drug traffickers.

According to police reports, the operation was carried out on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, by a multi-agency team comprising officers from Archers Post Police Station, National Police Reservists (NPR), and rangers from the Samburu National Reserve (SNR).

The team acted on intelligence indicating that a white Toyota Probox, with an unidentified registration number, was ferrying narcotics from Isiolo to Marsabit. Officers were alerted after the vehicle was spotted near the Waso Nyiro River, where armed individuals were seen unloading luggage.

Security personnel moved swiftly to the scene and encountered four suspects pushing sacks toward the riverside. Upon noticing the officers, the suspects opened fire, triggering a brief gunfight. The suspects eventually managed to flee into nearby thickets.

A search of the area led to the discovery of two green sacks containing several yellow and grey cello-taped bundles of suspected cannabis sativa. Authorities confirmed the consignment weighed 62.65 kilograms and is estimated to have a street value of Ksh 1,879,500.

Police have secured the narcotics as evidence, and a manhunt for the fleeing suspects is currently underway.

The National Police Service has appealed to the public for information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits, urging anyone with details about their identities or whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or security agency.
