Kirinyaga Leaders Applauded for Courageous Stand with Gen Z Protesters

By John Kariuki

At a time when the nation teetered under the weight of civil unrest and youth-led demonstrations, three Kirinyaga leaders rose above political caution to stand firmly on the side of justice and truth. Hon David Mathenge Baragwi, Senator Kamau Murango, and Hon Njeri Maina have proven that true leadership is not measured by proximity to power, but by the willingness to defend the people, especially when it is inconvenient to do so.

As Gen Z protesters across Kenya demanded accountability, transparency, and an end to injustice, these leaders did not shy away. They chose to walk shoulder to shoulder with the youth, amplifying their voices, visiting them in custody, and standing in courtrooms to defend their constitutional rights.

Hon David Mathenge Baragwi, known for his grassroots touch and unrelenting focus on the common mwananchi, emerged as a voice of calm and reason, urging the state to listen rather than suppress. His calls for justice were not just rhetoric but were backed by action, as he reached out to affected families and legal representatives to ensure no voice went unheard.

Senator Kamau Murango, representing Kirinyaga in the Senate, became a steadfast ally of the youth movement. He not only condemned the unlawful arrests and brutality but also championed legislative discussions on youth inclusion, accountability, and the need for a government that responds to its citizens. His leadership has been both bold and compassionate, embodying what it means to serve all Kenyans without fear or favor.

Hon Njeri Maina, a trailblazer in her own right, went beyond the call of duty. She did not just speak on platforms but walked beside the youth, visited police stations, stood in courtrooms, and held the government accountable in real-time. Her courage and unwavering support served as a lifeline to many detained protesters and a beacon of hope for an entire generation.

Together, these three leaders have reshaped the political narrative in Kirinyaga and beyond. In a time of silence, they chose to speak. In a time of fear, they chose to act. And in a time of repression, they stood tall for the people.

This is the kind of leadership Kenya needs  fearless, principled, and people-centered.
