Kapletingi Free Medical Camp Kicks Off with High Turnout, Annual Event and Children’s Hospital Announced
Hundreds of residents turned out on Thursday for the opening day of the Kapletingi Free Medical Camp, a two-day health outreach initiative aimed at providing critical services to underserved communities in Chepkorio Ward, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The medical camp, organized through a partnership between Deliverance Church, Total Care Foundation, and the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet, is offering a wide range of services including maternal and child healthcare, diabetes and hypertension screening, laboratory diagnostics, and general medical consultations.
Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek officially launched the camp, lauding the collaborative effort between faith-based and nonprofit organizations to address healthcare gaps in rural communities.
“This is the kind of partnership we need—where faith-based institutions and civil society work together with government to uplift our people,” Prof. Cheserek said. “Access to quality healthcare should not be a privilege, but a right.”
Also present at the event was the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services, Mrs. Monicah Jeptum, who announced that the Kapletingi medical camp will now become an annual event in the county health calendar.
“We’ve seen the overwhelming need and positive impact. Starting this year, Kapletingi Free Medical Camp will be held annually to ensure continuity of care,” Jeptum said.
In a major health infrastructure boost for the region, Jeptum further revealed plans to construct a children’s hospital within the facility. The hospital will specifically cater to rising cases of congenital heart conditions among children in the region.
“Through this partnership, we’re investing in the future. The children’s hospital will help us manage complex cases locally, without the need for expensive referrals to Nairobi or Eldoret,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Countywide Measles-Rubella and Typhoid Vaccination Campaign is ongoing, with county health officials urging parents and guardians to ensure that all children aged 9 months to 14 years are vaccinated before the campaign concludes on July 14, 2025.
“This campaign is vital for preventing outbreaks and safeguarding public health. We’re calling on all caregivers to take advantage of the remaining days,” Jeptum emphasized.
