Activist Kipkorir Ngetich Condemns Mawego Police Station Attack, Calls for Urgent Action from President Ruto

Human Rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has issued a strongly worded statement condemning the recent burning of Mawego Police Station in Homa Bay County, describing the incident as a “dangerous height of criminality, lawlessness, and incitement” that threatens the stability of the nation.

In his statement, Ngetich called on President William Ruto to act swiftly and decisively in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief to restore order and prevent what he termed as “a well-organized script of destabilization” and “laying of ground for full-blown anarchy.”

“This is not a spontaneous outburst of anger. This is a deliberate, coordinated and dangerous escalation of violence, and it must be stopped before the country slides into chaos,” said Ngetich.

The activist warned that Kenya is treading a perilous path that mirrors the unrest seen in countries like Haiti, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He expressed grave concern that security officers are increasingly becoming targets of violence, and are being intimidated under the guise of human rights, democracy, and justice.

“It is unfortunate that Kenya has become a country where police officers are now scared to enforce the law due to fear of public backlash, judicial passivity, and silence from key institutions,” he lamented.

Ngetich further alleged that elements within the national security apparatus have been infiltrated by sympathizers of those orchestrating the unrest, and called on the Director of National Intelligence to act against saboteurs within government.

He pointed to the ongoing court process over the death of university student Albert Omondi, noting that justice is being pursued legally and that retaliatory violence against police officers is unacceptable.

“The law of the jungle must not be allowed to replace the rule of law. Those aggrieved must seek justice through the courts, not through organized violence,” Ngetich said.

The activist also claimed that some student leaders in learning institutions are being used as conduits to mobilize youth into violent protests, allegedly funded and coordinated by unnamed political and religious actors.

“The courage, resilience, and coordination we saw from the youths involved suggests high-level planning. This is not just protest – it is a strategic operation to weaken the police and sow division among security agencies,” he warned.

Ngetich urged President Ruto to exercise his full constitutional authority to restore calm and protect the sovereignty of the state. He also criticized the silence of the judiciary, religious leaders, civil society, and foreign embassies, warning that their inaction could enable further breakdown of law and order.

“This is no longer about justice; it’s a calculated push for unconstitutional regime change. Mr. President, your love for peace and humility must not be mistaken for weakness. It’s time to act,” he stated.

He concluded by calling for unity and vigilance among Kenyans, and warned youth not to be manipulated into destroying their own country for the sake of political gains by "power-hungry individuals."

“Enough is enough. All those involved in this criminal network must be brought to justice. Kenya must not burn under the guise of democracy.”
