Ichung’wah Accuses Gachagua of Plotting to Torch His Home and Parents’ House in Kikuyu
By Linda Muhanji
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of sponsoring violence during the recent protests, including an alleged attempt to torch his home and that of his elderly parents in Kikuyu.
Taking to a lengthy statement, Ichung'wah alleged that he has been avoiding answering Gachagua's latest allegations but has been pushed to respond following the extent of the violence.
In the statement dated Wednesday, July 9, Ichung’wah dismissed Gachagua’s claims that the government had staged attacks on public buildings to frame opposition allies, terming the allegations as 'pure madness'.
He accused the former DP of fueling chaos to protect his political associates who were allegedly caught on camera committing criminal acts.
"Thanks to my neighbours and patriotic officers, an attempt to torch my house and that of my parents was repulsed,” Ichung’wah alleged, whilst adding that the attacks were not random but targeted.
The Kikuyu MP's remarks come hours after Gachagua's latest presser, where he claimed that the burning of a police station and the Kikuyu Law Courts was orchestrated to criminalise his allies.
Two of Gachagua's allies, including Gitonga Mukunji, the MP for Manyatta, have been arrested following the arson against the court.
The former DP also accused Ichung’wah of stage-managing the violence to gain political mileage.
While defending himself, Ichung'wah stated that the only person responsible for Gachagua's political failure is himself and warned that he should refrain from blaming anyone else.
“His downfall was not engineered by anybody other than himself. It was brewed in his pot by his politics of lies, intimidation, and calculated chaos,” Ichung'wah alleged.
Ichung'wah has accused Gachagua of shielding individuals who were arrested for inciting violence and looting, including Mukunji, who was allegedly caught mobilising gangs to loot Spur Mall along Thika Road.
The majority leader has maintained his accusations against Gachagua, alleging that the former DP aims at pushing the country to anarchy.
Ichung'wah's sentiments follow a recent rant by President William Ruto, who said that the violence the country had faced so far was enough and that he was going to take action and ensure the country does not perish.
