Governor Natembeya Congratulates Emmanuel Wanyonyi for Historic 800m Run at Monaco Diamond League
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has extended his warmest congratulations to Emmanuel Wanyonyi following his spectacular performance at the Monaco Diamond League, where the young Kenyan athlete clocked an astonishing 1:41.44 in the men’s 800 meters.
Wanyonyi’s time not only shattered the meeting record but also stands as the fastest time recorded globally in 2025. The 20-year-old's incredible run places him among the top ten fastest men in the 800m event in history—an elite club occupied by some of the greatest names in athletics.
In a statement issued from his office in Kitale, Governor Natembeya lauded Wanyonyi’s discipline, focus, and relentless determination, calling his achievement a “proud moment for Trans Nzoia and Kenya as a whole.”
“On behalf of the great people of Trans Nzoia County, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Emmanuel Wanyonyi for his phenomenal performance at the #MonacoDL,” said Governor Natembeya. “Clocking 1:41.44 in the 800m and setting a new meeting record is no small feat. This is a proud moment not only for your family and coaches, but for the entire country. You have flown our flag high and reminded the world of Kenya’s enduring excellence in middle-distance running.”
The governor emphasized that Wanyonyi’s success story is a beacon of hope and inspiration for young people in Trans Nzoia and across Kenya, urging youth to emulate his commitment and dedication to excellence.
“You have become a symbol of what can be achieved with hard work and determination. Trans Nzoia is proud of you, son of the soil. You continue to inspire a generation, and we stand firmly behind you as you chase greatness on the global stage,” Natembeya added.
The county government announced plans to officially recognize Wanyonyi’s achievements in a homecoming celebration upon his return, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing sporting talent across the region.
