Former MP Maina Kamanda Calls for President Ruto’s Impeachment Over ‘Failure to Respect Hustlers’

Former Starehe Member of Parliament, Maina Kamanda, has issued a scathing rebuke of President William Ruto’s leadership, accusing him of abandoning the very citizens — commonly referred to as hustlers — who propelled him to power.

Speaking at a charged press conference in Nairobi on Friday, Kamanda declared that he is ready to support and finance a motion of impeachment against the President, citing what he termed as "total failure in leadership and betrayal of the ordinary mwananchi."

“No leader who fails to execute his duties and disregards the plight of the common man deserves to continue holding office. Hiyo ujinga sharti ikome,” Kamanda said, his voice rising in frustration. “I will work with like-minded MPs to table a motion of impeachment next week Thursday. Enough is enough.”

The former legislator accused President Ruto of ignoring the economic plight of low-income Kenyans, despite campaigning on a platform that prioritized their welfare.

“He promised to uplift the hustler but instead has turned his back on them. Today, the cost of living is unbearable, taxes are choking businesses, and youth remain jobless. Kenyans feel betrayed,” Kamanda stated.

Kamanda went further to suggest he is ready to assume leadership should Ruto be ousted.

“If the country needs a leader who listens and acts for the people, I am ready. I will not stand by as Kenyans suffer.”

While Kamanda no longer holds an elected position, his statement is expected to ignite political tensions, especially within opposition circles and among disgruntled segments of the population.

At the time of publishing, State House had not responded to Kamanda’s remarks. Several political analysts noted that although impeachment is constitutionally possible, it would require the support of two-thirds of the National Assembly — a threshold that is currently difficult to achieve without significant cross-party support.

Kamanda’s fiery comments come amid growing public dissatisfaction with the government over tax hikes, unemployment, and the rising cost of living. Protests have recently erupted in several parts of the country, with youth demanding accountability and reforms.
