Chief Kadhi Sheikh AbdulHalim Hussein Passes Away in Mombasa
The Muslim community in Kenya is mourning the passing of Chief Kadhi Sheikh AbdulHalim Hussein, who died earlier today in Mombasa. He will be laid to rest this evening after Asr (afternoon) prayers, in accordance with Islamic tradition.
The news of his death has sent shockwaves across the country, with religious leaders, government officials, and members of the public expressing their sorrow and paying tribute to a man who dedicated his life to justice, faith, and the service of the Muslim community.
Sheikh AbdulHalim, who served as Kenya’s Chief Kadhi for several years, was widely respected for his deep knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence and his calm, principled leadership. As the highest-ranking Muslim judicial authority in the country, he presided over Islamic courts that handled matters related to marriage, divorce, and inheritance, earning admiration for his fairness, humility, and unwavering commitment to truth.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Kenya has lost a pillar of wisdom and faith. Sheikh AbdulHalim’s service to the nation and the Muslim ummah will never be forgotten,” said one mourner outside the mosque in Mombasa.
Funeral prayers will be held shortly after Asr at a mosque in Mombasa, followed by his burial.
Sheikh AbdulHalim leaves behind a legacy of religious scholarship, social justice, and interfaith dialogue. He is survived by his family and thousands who were touched by his words, rulings, and leadership.
