Grief as Trans Nzoia Mourns Two Dedicated County Staff Members

A sombre mood engulfed the Trans Nzoia County headquarters as Governor George Natembeya led county officials and staff in signing a condolence book following the deaths of two county employees, Mr. Joseph Chumo Kirwa and Ms. Agnes Mulongo Ngeywa.

Mr. Kirwa, a driver at Kapsara Hospital, died after battling chest complications, while Ms. Ngeywa, an Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher based at Ekegoro, succumbed to liver failure.

Speaking during the emotional ceremony, Governor Natembeya described the loss as heartbreaking, noting that colleagues often become part of one’s extended family due to the close bonds formed at work.

“Losing a colleague is something one cannot fathom because colleagues become like family. We spend a lot of time together and build strong bonds,” said the Governor.

He emphasized the importance of honouring deceased staff members with dignity in recognition of their dedication and service to the county government and residents of Trans Nzoia.

“As a government, there is need to give our departed colleagues a respectable send-off,” he added.

The Governor also assured the bereaved families of the county government’s support, saying assistance would be provided in line with the Human Resource policy.

“It is God’s plan, and as a government we will provide a hearse, coffin and benevolence as stipulated in the Human Resource policy, and we are ready to help where necessary,” he stated.

Mr. Kirwa will be laid to rest on Friday, May 15, at Kapkoi Sisal, while Ms. Ngeywa will be buried on Saturday, May 16, in Aruba.

The condolence signing ceremony was attended by County Secretary Madam Truphosa Amere, County Executive Committee Members Eliud Tormoi, Janerose Muthama, Kerio Lorot, Pepela Wanjala and Robert Wamalwa, Chief Officer Judith Simiyu, alongside county staff who turned up to pay their last respects to the departed colleagues.
