DCI Anti-Narcotics Unit Arrests Two Suspects, Recovers 250g of Heroin in Mombasa
In a coordinated intelligence-led operation, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Mombasa has arrested two individuals and recovered 250 grammes of heroin in a major breakthrough against drug and child trafficking networks.
The operation, carried out in Maweni Estate, Nyali, followed credible intelligence indicating the involvement of the suspects in both narcotics and child trafficking activities. Upon raiding the premises, authorities recovered three sachets of heroin, prompting the swift arrest of the suspects identified as Amir Latf and Ruhman Abubakar.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are part of a larger criminal network operating across Mombasa, Malindi, and Nairobi, engaging not only in the trafficking of narcotics but also in the exploitation of children. Authorities are now conducting further investigations to establish the extent of their operations and potential accomplices.
The suspects are currently in custody undergoing processing and are expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days. The recovered narcotics have been secured as evidence.
The DCI confirmed that the arrests underscore the agency’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks involved in drug trafficking and protecting vulnerable children from exploitation. “These arrests are part of our continued efforts to fight narcotics and child trafficking through intelligence-led operations,” a DCI spokesperson said.
Residents of Nyali and surrounding areas have welcomed the operation, which authorities say demonstrates the importance of community cooperation in reporting suspicious activities to help safeguard public safety.
The DCI has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide information to law enforcement agencies to assist in curbing drug-related crimes and protecting children from trafficking.
This latest operation is part of an ongoing crackdown by the Anti-Narcotics Unit, aimed at disrupting the supply of illegal drugs and ensuring that perpetrators of serious crimes are brought to justice.
