Uasin Gishu County Advances Healthcare Through Strategic Training Initiative
In a bid to strengthen grassroots healthcare systems, the County Government of Uasin Gishu has concluded a comprehensive training program aimed at enhancing service delivery and governance in local health facilities.
Under the leadership of Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, the county is pushing forward a health-focused agenda through strategic collaborations. The latest initiative, implemented in partnership with Moi University’s Africa Health Collaborative Project and the Mastercard Foundation, brought together health facility in-charges and committee members from Ainabkoi and Kesses sub-counties for an intensive capacity-building program.
The week-long training, which wrapped up on Wednesday, focused on improving key operational competencies such as financial reporting, record keeping, documentation, and auditing. These areas are considered critical for fostering transparency, ensuring accountability, and boosting the efficiency of public health services.
Addressing participants at the closing ceremony, County Primary Healthcare Coordinator Collete Chirchir emphasized the need for continuous professional development in healthcare leadership.
“Accurate financial records and regular audits are not just administrative requirements—they are tools that build public trust and improve overall service delivery,” Chirchir stated.
Professor Joseph Lagat of Moi University echoed these sentiments, urging participants to adopt best practices in governance and financial management to better serve their communities.
The training forms part of the Africa Health Collaborative Project’s broader mission, which is anchored on three foundational pillars: health employment, health entrepreneurship, and health ecosystems. Through curriculum innovation and practical training, the initiative aims to equip health workers with the necessary skills to navigate a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
“This is more than a training. It’s an investment in people and systems that form the backbone of our healthcare,” said Professor Lagat.
Governor Bii’s administration has consistently prioritized quality healthcare, viewing it as a cornerstone for socio-economic development. By empowering healthcare personnel and promoting community involvement in facility management, the county hopes to enhance service accessibility and elevate the standard of care for all residents.
This initiative marks a significant step toward achieving Governor Bii’s vision of a robust, responsive, and equitable healthcare system—driven by skilled personnel and sustained through effective local leadership.
