Human Rights Activist Raises Alarm Over Alleged Militia Plot Linked to DCP Party

Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has sounded a serious warning to Kenya’s security apparatus, calling for immediate action against what he describes as a “clandestine and highly dangerous militia network” allegedly linked to the Democratic Change Party (DCP), led by the former Deputy President and Secretary General Cleophas Malala.

According to Ngetich, a network of former and dismissed security officers has been secretly recruited and mobilized under an outfit disguised as an association of retired officers. The group, he claims, is being trained and financed to carry out a series of destabilizing acts across the country—including guerrilla-style attacks, infiltration of government institutions, and targeted harassment of key pro-government individuals.

“This is not ordinary political opposition. What we are witnessing is a deliberate, well-funded plan to wage an underground war against the Kenyan state. Former disciplined forces are now being re-purposed into a militia force, allegedly under DCP sponsorship, to inflict fear and chaos,” Ngetich said in a public statement.

He further alleges that the group has been tasked with gathering intelligence on government supporters, activists, journalists, and professionals seen to align with the Kenya Kwanza administration. The network is said to have planned hit-and-run operations, sabotage missions, and infiltration of security operations, with some operatives allegedly acquiring police uniforms to mask their true identity during civil unrest.

A Politically Backed Crisis in the Making?

Ngetich likened the group’s formation to the former Sabaot Land Defence Force, which was responsible for severe violence in Mt. Elgon nearly two decades ago. However, he warned that the current alleged group has more dangerous potential due to the serious financial and political backing from opposition quarters.

“There is reason to believe this militia intends to use violence during demonstrations—possibly even shooting protestors themselves—to manufacture a human rights crisis that could trigger international criminal investigations,” he said. “They are preparing grounds to make the government appear criminal, weaken its legitimacy, and incite rebellion.”

He accused DCP of launching these efforts after the failure of the recent Gen Z-led protests, claiming that the opposition is now shifting to a more aggressive strategy aimed at derailing Kenya’s electoral process ahead of the next general election.

Call to Action

The activist has called upon the National Security Council, led by President William Ruto, as well as the National Police Service and National Intelligence Service, to treat the matter as a high-priority national security threat.

“Every element involved in this clandestine operation must be tracked, exposed, and prosecuted. Kenyans cannot allow a few selfish individuals to throw the country into flames for their personal political ambitions,” Ngetich warned.

He also challenged opposition leaders, particularly Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa, to publicly declare their stance on the alleged formation of this group.

“Let them tell Kenyans where they stand. Are they with the Constitution and peace—or are they silently endorsing this militia plot against democracy?” he posed.

Condemnation of Political Hypocrisy

In a direct rebuke to the former Deputy President and Secretary General Malala, Ngetich said:

“It is shocking that a man who once rose to high office through a constitutional election can now turn around and allegedly support efforts to dismantle that same system. Political parties are not militias. They are democratic tools—not underground armies.”

He added that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua must also be held accountable for any links to violence and unrest, stating that “this time, it will not be business as usual.”

Defending Democracy

Ngetich concluded his statement by reminding Kenyans that the only legitimate path to power is through the ballot box—not chaos, not fear, and not the gun.

“President Ruto was elected constitutionally. He has both the mandate and duty to protect this nation. We call for unity, peace, and absolute rejection of those who seek power through anarchy,” he said.
