Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano led a high-profile delegation in Nyandarua County to commission Last Mile Connectivity projects, a milestone initiative aimed at electrifying rural homes and accelerating grassroots development.
The exercise was graced by key leaders including Hon. Michael Muchira, Member of Parliament for Ol Joro Orok Constituency, Hon. Eng. George Gachagua, Member of Parliament for Ndaragwa Constituency, and Hon. Zachary Kwenya Thuku, Member of Parliament for Kinangop Constituency. Also present were Principal Secretary for Energy Alex Wachira and his counterpart in Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua.
The Last Mile Connectivity projects are designed to light up households, schools and trading centers, directly impacting thousands of residents. Beyond simply connecting homes to power, the program aims to unlock economic opportunities, enhance education, improve health services and raise the overall quality of life.
CS Miano emphasized that rural electrification is a cornerstone of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, noting that reliable power enables children to study longer, small businesses to grow, and households to enjoy modern conveniences. She hailed President William Ruto for championing transformative initiatives that bridge historical inequalities and expand opportunities in rural areas.
“This is not just about electricity, it is about empowerment. It means enabling mothers to carry out household duties with ease and ensuring that children have the tools and light they need to study, dream and thrive,” she said.
The Nyandarua leaders echoed her sentiments, praising the government’s deliberate focus on infrastructure expansion and pledging continued support to ensure the success of national development programs.
This latest electrification effort represents yet another milestone in Kenya’s push for equitable development, proving that public service driven by vision and commitment can have an immediate and lasting impact on communities.
