In a bold and successful security operation, officers from the National Police Service (NPS), including personnel from the General Service Unit (GSU) and National Police Reservists (NPR), recovered 59 head of livestock stolen by armed bandits in the Marti area of Samburu County.
The livestock, which had been stolen from a herdsman in the Nchalai area of Angata Nanyuki, was swiftly tracked after the incident was reported to local authorities. Acting with urgency, the security team pursued the suspected rustlers—who were reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles.
Upon intercepting the raiders, the officers engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire, eventually subduing the armed suspects and recovering the stolen animals. The herdsman, whose life was in imminent danger during the confrontation, was successfully rescued unharmed.
Thanks to the swift and coordinated response, all the stolen livestock were returned to their rightful owner.
“This operation is a clear demonstration of our unwavering commitment to protecting life and property,” said a statement from the National Police Service. “We commend our officers in Samburu for their courage and effectiveness.”
The National Police Service reiterated its dedication to maintaining peace, safeguarding livelihoods, and ensuring security in all parts of Kenya, particularly in regions frequently affected by livestock theft and banditry.
Livestock theft remains a persistent threat in parts of northern Kenya, often driven by inter-community conflict, poverty, and armed criminal networks. Authorities continue to strengthen security presence and intelligence operations in affected counties.
